Robert Hayden

A copy of the following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    DIES AT HOME IN VIRGINIA

Word has been received by relatives of the death at his home near Providence Forge, Va., on Sept 3, of Robert Hayden, who was born and raised west of Lowell.

He was the son of John and Rachel Hayden and was born on a farm north of Sherburnville on December 29, 1860. He was united in marriage to Sarah Ann Smith on February 23, 1881. To this union seven children were born, four sons and three daughters. One daughter, Mrs. Lora Gill, preceded him in death. The remaining children are: Mrs. Roberts, John, Sebern, and Louis, all of Virginia, Mrs. Arthur Sharkey and Ray Hayden, of Momence. Besides his wife and children, he is survived by twenty-one grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers and one sister -- Jess Hayden of Momence, and Alva Hayden and Mrs. William Diss, of Roanoke, Ind., besides many near relatives and a host of friends in this vicinity.
