Robert W. “Bob” Thiel

Robert W. "Bob" Thiel

An April 6, 1944, Lowell Tribune article (page 1, column 1) entitled "World War II Vets Installed in Lowell Legion" lists Robert W. Thiel, Anti-aircraft, as one of nine honorably discharged World War II soldiers and one WAVE who were installed at Lowell Post 101, American Legion.

This Lowell Tribune article was found in the February 15, 1945, issue (page 2, column 1):
Robert Thiel, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Thiel, now residents of Gary, who is in the Maritime service, writes his parents that he is now on shuttle service between New Guinea and Australia. Bob said he was O.K., but that Christmas was not the best, as he only received one package, the ones his parents sent having never reached him. He said they decorated their mess hall with colored crepe paper, which helped make it look a little like Christmas.
