Receiving Training at Great Lakes
Roger Brown, 24, husband of Mrs. Mary Brown, Lowell, is receiving his initial naval indoctrination at the U.S. naval training center at Great Lakes, Ill.His recruit training consists of instruction in seamanship, military drill, and general naval procedure. During this period a series of aptitude tests will be taken by the recruit to determine whether he will be assigned to a naval service school or to immediate duty at sea.
When his recruit training is completed, the seaman will receive a period of leave.
This June 7, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 7, column 3:
- Mrs. Roger E. Brown left for Corpus Christi, Texas, Monday, to be with her husband, Roger E. Brown, S 1/c, while he is in training there.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the March 14, 1946, issue (page 2, column 1):
- The following local boys have received their discharges from the navy the past week: Robert F. Cullen, PH M 3/c; Roger E. Brown, AET M 3/c; Thomas R. Combs, PH, M 2/c; and Robert Surprise, SOM 2/c.
