This January 13, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    Bill Alger, Petty Officer 3/c, in a letter to his parents, the C.F. Algers, said that he had recently met Seaman Eddie Shutts, a former teacher at Lowell high. Bill also said he was very busy sorting air mail letters. For example: last Tuesday's mail brought in 460 sacks--70 lbs. of letters in each. He is working 9 hours a day at San Francisco post office and rooming at a hotel there.

This March 16, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 3:
    Edwin Shutts, SK 3/c, stationed at the naval base at Shoemaker, Calif., was here several days the past week visiting friends. Ed, a former member of the L.H.S. faculty, looks as though life in the navy agreed with him.

This Lowell Tribune article was found in the April 6, 1944, issue (page 2, column 1):
    Bill Alger, Petty Officer 3/c, has been moved from his duties at San Francisco fleet postoffice to a place of embarkation in California, which happens to be where his former teacher, Edwin Shutts, Petty Officer 3/c, is stationed.

The following June 29, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:

    Spent Yesterday Here

    Lt. (j.g.) Edwin Shutts, who is visiting his mother and sister in Gary, spent yesterday here, accompanied by his mother. Ed informed us that he was being transferred to Harvard university, where he will attend school the next four months.

This July 13, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:

    Attending Harvard U.

    Lt. (j.g.) Ross E. Shutts, writes the Tribune that he is now attending Harvard University, where he is studying naval communications, which he finds quite interesting. He will continue his studies there for a few months before joining the fleet.

The following November 2, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, columns 2-3:
    Lt. (j.g.) Edwin Shutts, who has been attending a communications school at Cambridge, Mass., is home on leave. He will report for duty at Charleston, S.C. when his leave expires.

This Lowell Tribune article was found in the February 8, 1945, issue (page 4, column 1):
    Lt. (j.g.) R. Edwin Shutts, former L.H.S. teacher, now stationed in California, in the office of the amphibious training command forces, writes:
      "I have enjoyed the Tribune, especially since I have been in the service because it keeps me in touch with who's doing what back home.
      "I've been in San Diego for three weeks now have no idea how much longer I'll be here. I do know what I'm headed for, though. Keep on sending the Tribune. I'll try to keep you informed on my change of address.

This August 16, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    In a letter to The Tribune this week, Lt. Edwin Shutts says he receives his paper quite regularly, and even though many of them are over three months old by the time he receives them, he enjoys reading the news of home just the same.
