Funeral Saturday for Samuel J. McDowell
Samuel J. McDowell passed away this morning, Feb. 9, at our Lady of Mercy hospital in Dyer, where he had been a patient for the past two weeks.Mr. McDowell retired last summer from his duties as custodian of the Criminal Court building in Crown Point.
His wife, Mrs. Clara Sherard McDowell, survives.
Rev. E.L. Worley will officiate at memorial services which will be conducted at 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, in the Eskridge Funeral Home.

Memorial services were held at 4 p.m. Saturday, February 11, for Samuel J. McDowell, 70, who passed away at Our Lady of Mercy hospital in Dyer February 9, following an illness of two weeks. Rev. E. L. Worley officiated at the rites conducted in the Eskridge Funeral Home. Interment was made in the Lowell cemetery.Mr. McDowell was born Jan. 11, 1886, at North Manchester, Ind., and on Feb. 16, 1938, he was married to Clara Sherard of Lowell, where he had since made his home. He retired last summer from his duties as custodian of the Criminal Court building, Crown Point.
Mr. McDowell was a member of the Masonic Colfax Lodge, No. 378.
Surviving besides his widow are: a stepson, Charles Sherard of Indianapolis, and a brother, J. Arthur McDowell of Huntington.
