Sarah Jane Evans Robinson (1848-1916)
(Mrs. John Robinson)

The following article was found in the Nov. 2, 1916, Lowell Tribune on page 4, column 2:

    Obituary

Sarah Jane Evans was born in Ohio December 29, 1848. At the age of one year her parents moved near Valparaiso, Ind., where at the age of 20, she united with the Baptist church. In 1874 the family moved near Lowell, where she united with the Christian church under the first pastorate of A.M. Hootman. She was united in marriage to John Robinson December 25, 1869, and to this union eight children were born, three dying in infancy and one daughter, Ella Louise, dying May 13, 1916. Four children are left with their father to mourn their mother's departure -- James W. of Hebron; Frank E. of Hammond; J. Melvin and Mrs. Wm. Futhey, of Lowell. She had two brothers and three sisters. Robert Evans, of Chicago, the only living member of the family, was present.

She lived on the farm near Lowell for thirty-six years. They bought a home and moved to Lowell in December 1905.

She also leaves seven living grandchildren. Her life has been that of a consistent Christian. Her great joy in life was to live for her husband and children, and when the end came, after praying for them, she said she was ready to go.

She had been ailing for several years, but had been seriously sick for four weeks, and she ceased to suffer Friday morning, October 27, 1916, when her earthly spirit took its flight from her earthly tabernacle.

S.O. Landis preached the funeral sermon. Mrs. Raymond McCarty, Mrs. Harry Sanger and Warren Dickinson constituted the trio which sang. Undertaker H.V. Weaver had charge of the burial service. Interment was made in the Lowell cemetery.

In column 4 of the same page of the paper, the family responded:

Card of Thanks: We desire to extend our sincere thanks to our friends and neighbors for their kindness shown us during the sickness of our dear wife and mother, and when death came offered such kind words of consolation. We also desire to thank those who furnished autos and flowers. Signed: John G. Robinson and children.
