Steve Crabb

The following December 4, 1924 Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 1, column 4:

    Suffocates In Burning Building

STEVE CRABB DIES AT BRENNAN RESORT IN WEST CREEK

Harry Brennan's resort on the Kankakee river in the south end of West creek township was burned to the ground last Thursday night. Steve Crabb, who was working there was asleep in the building and before any one knew he was there, he was suffocated to death by smoke. He was in the habit of sleeping in another building and it was thought that he was there that night, but for some reason he changed quarters that night.

Deputy Coroner J.W. Iddings and Marshal Duckworth were down to the place the next morning to investigate the death and from what they could learn there had been rather a hilarious time there Thanksgiving day and when the building took fire they were in no condition to fight the fire. Crabb was undoubtedly in a dazed condition or he could have saved himself.

The remains were shipped to his old home in South Bend for burial.
