The following February 13, 1969, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 5:

    Serving In Vietnam

    Hospital Corpsman Third Class Terry L. Coffin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Coffin of Cedar Lake, is serving with the First Reconnaissance Battalion, First Marine Division, in South Vietnam.

    Reconnaissance Battalion Marines infiltrate deep into enemy lines to gather intelligence reports, using pathfinding, Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus (SCUBA), and parachute drops to achieve their mission.

    While on patrol the Marines often call in and direct artillery and air strikes against concentrated enemy forces which they encounter.


The following April 24, 1969, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, columns 7-8:

    Injured In Viet Nam

    Second class Petty Officer Hospital Corpsman Terry L. Coffin, with a Marine reconnaissance group in Vietnam after serving 6 months, April 15th at Loc Quany Nam, South Vietnam, sustained fragment wounds, right flank and chest, from enemy surprise firing device on long range reconnaissance patrol.

    Naval officer L.C.D.R. Henry E. Harris, Jr., notified his parents April 17, 1969. April 21st word was received from Terry that there will be no permanent damage. His address is: H.M.2 Terry L.     Terry's brother is currently serving as a yeoman on the U.S.S. Bennington and his address is: Larry Coffin, S.M., B513244, Engineering Log Rm., U.S.S. Bennington, C.D.F.-20, F.P.O., San Francisco, California 96601.
