The Automobile Age Comes to Lake County

The following article was found on page 5, column 4 of the July 12, 1917, Lowell Tribune:

    5569 Autos in County

    According to statistics compiled by the Campbell Circular Advertising Co. of Indianapolis, there were 5569 automobile registered at the Secretary of State' office from Lake county up to July 1, or for the first halfof 1917. This is far in excess of the total registration for last year.

    Thos. T. Wilson, of Gary, with his Ford car, was the first to register from this county, and the last was J.W. Reed, of Hammond, license No. G7173 having been issued for his Krit on last Sarurday.

    The total number of registrations for the entire state of Indiana is 167,181, the last license number being G7181. The letter A on a license number is between 100,00 and 110,000; B is between 110,000 and 120,000, and so on, each succeeding letter indicating an additional 10,000 licenses. The estimated value of all automobiles in Indiana is $85,000,000.
