The following June 1, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:

    Reported Missing in Action

    Albert Zimowsk* of Schneider, informed us Saturday that the family had received a telegram from the war department stating that his brother, Sgt. Vernon Zimowsk, who has been serving with the coast guard in the south Pacific area, was missing in action. Vernon had been in this branch of service the past two years. The family will be given more details by the war department when they receive the information from that area.
* Note -- The newspaper left the "i" off the end of the last name.
