W.R. “Woody” Wood

W.R. "Woody" Wood

The following November 9, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2 column 2:

    Writes Tribune

The following V - mail was received from Pvt. W. R. (Woody) Wood, who at present is stationed "somewhere in the Netherlands East Indies".

Somewhere in the N.E. Indies -- Just a line to let you know my address has been changed. Please send my Trib to the above address until I notify you again. I've been getting quite a few lately-not hot off the press, but believe me, I enjoy them very much-especially the column about the boys all over the world.

I haven't met a soul I knew prior to becoming a G.I. I keep busy and am feeling O.K. Things here are O.K. now and I'm sure glad, because we've had a few visits from Tojo via the air since we hit this place. Our outfit goes along on invasions and blitzes to handle and set up supplies, etc., so naturally I get around some and see interesting things, even occasionally from a fox hole. I've picked up quite a smattering of dialects and lingos over here. I visit the villages and take exploring trips whenever I can and I've got some dandy pictures of it all, from D-Days to just scenery shots.

This Phillippines business sounds good to use. Hope I'm still here to get my Tribs at this APO, but have my doubts.

Say "ello" to all the town folks who might be interested.
