Wallace Kepperling (1910-1926)
BOY'S BODY IS FOUND IN RIVER
DROWNED TWO WEEKS AGO AND BODY WAS FOUND LAST FRIDAY
The remains of Wallace Kepperling, who was drowned in the Kankakee river on October 8th, were found by Mark Hoag of Schneider, last Friday after being in the water two weeks.On the day of the drowning young Kepperling, who lived at Thayer, was on the river with two other young boys in a motor boat and they saw a hawk on the north bank and thought they would take a shot at it. The lad who had charge of the wheel let go and the boat spun around, throwing all three into the river. The other two both got out, but young Kepperling was drowned before he could be rescued. Search was made for the body but all efforts failed until last Friday when it was found about six miles west of where he was drowned by Mr. Hoag at a point about 300 yards east of the Schneider bridge.
The coroner was called and he gave a verdict of death by drowning.
The remains were brought to the Sheets undertaking rooms and funeral services were held there on Sunday at 10 a.m. Burial was in Orchard Grove cemetery in charge of Undertaker Sheets. The following acted as pall bearers: Errit Davis, Robert Jansen, Edward Jansen, William DeFries, George Davis and James Dickey. The funeral service was in charge of Rev. F.B. Nickerson, pastor of the Christian church.
Wallace Kepperling was born December 29, 1910, and died from accidental drowning October 8, 1926. He is survived by two half sisters, Mrs. Helen Kelley and Miss Lola Mallotte. His father preceded him in death last January.
