The following article was found in the January 28, 1943, Lowell Tribune on page 2, column 2:

    WALTER SMITH HOME DAMAGED BY FIRE

    The fire department was called to the Walter Smith home on Saturday when a neighbor, Mrs. Guy Wood, noticed a fire on the roof and summoned the firemen. The cause of the fire is thought to have been defective wiring.

    Considerable damage was done before the blaze was brought under control. The property is owned by Thomas Purchase.
