The following July 20, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 1:

    Wounded In Action

    Harry Schlachter has received word that his nephew, Pvt. Wilford Schlachter has been wounded in action June 20th, in the invasion of France. He was sent to an English hospital, where he is showing rapid improvement. He was also wounded in the campaign in Sicily for which he received the Purple Heart.
