The following article was found in the Jan. 14, 1943, Lowell Tribune on page 4, column 1:
    A cablegram of holiday greetings was received by Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Curtis from their son, Pvt. Wilford, who is with the U.S. forces in Africa. A letter two weeks ago and the cablegram is the first word his parents have had from "Skinny" in several months.
The following article from an unknown source was found in the Local History Files at the Lowell Public Library (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 1, page 22):
    July 6, 1944
    Cpl. George Bernard Stahl, son of the Ray Stahls, east of Lowell, was killed in action on the Italian front on June 3rd, according to a telegram to his parents from the war department Monday morning. He is the second Lowell boy killed on the Italian front, the first being Cpl. Wilfred G. Curtis, infantryman, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Curtis, who died October 14, 1943, of wounds received in battle.
This November 11, 1948, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 1:

    12 More Area Soldiers Are Being Returned

    The bodies of 12 more soldiers who gave their lives for their country in Italy are among the remains of 7,129 Americans being returned to the United States for reburial to the United States aboard the U.S. transport Lawrence Victory, for reburial.
    The remains of one south county soldier, Cpl. Wilfred G. Curtis, of Lowell, are among those being returned. No further notification has been received as yet.
This December 2, 1948, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 4:

    MILITARY SERVICES TO BE HELD FOR CPL. CURTIS

    The remains of Cpl. Wilfred E. Curtis, 23, who died from wounds received in action in Italy, on Oct. 17, 1943, arrived here yesterday afternoon.
From The Lowell Tribune, Dec. 28, 1950, page 6, column 3:
    FUNERAL SERVICES TODAY FOR MRS. GEORGE CURTIS
    Funeral services for Mrs. Pearl G. Curtis, 61, a long-time resident of this community, will be held at 2 o'clock today (Thursday), from the Sheets funeral home, with the Rev. E.L. Worley officiating. Burial will be in Lowell cemetery.
    Mrs. Curtis, who died Dec. 24 at her farm home southwest of here following a long illness, was a member of the Gold Star Mothers and of Lowell Legion Auxilary.
    Surviving are her husband, George; two sons, Robert of South Bend, and Willard of Lowell; a daughter, Mrs. Wilfred Tuttle of Shelby; three sisters, three brothers and seven grandchildren. A son, Wilfred, was killed in Italy during World War II.
