The following June 8, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
    Lt. William O'Brien is here visiting his mother, Mrs. Clara Harbrecht, and family. Bill, a graduate of L.H.S., will go to Florida for further training, following expiration of his leave.

The following June 22, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 3, column 2:

    Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant

    Chanute Field, Ill. -- William C. O'Brien, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Harbrecht, of rural route 1, Lowell, recently was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the army of the United States and has been assigned to duty as a weather officer at an AAF station.

    He received his commission at this post of the AAF training command following completion of a course in advanced weather observing and forecasting in addition to training in duties and responsibilities of commissioned officers.
