WILLIAM F. HERBST, FATHER OF PROMINENT AREA RESIDENT, DIES
William F. Herbst, 69, passed away Sunday, at the Lake Dalecarlia home of his son, Herbert, with whom he had made his home for the past five years. Formerly he had resided in Hammond for 50 years. He was born in Chicago, July 15, 1885.Like his prominent and esteemed son, Herbert, he was interested in church and community activities. He was a member of Hope Lutheran church, Cedar Lake, and an honorary member of the Lake Dalecarlia Volunteer Fire Department. Active pallbearers were department members.
Survivors, in addition to his son, are a daughter, Mrs. John Ippel of Harvey, 24 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Gertie Simmons of Hammond, and two brothers, Otto of Hammond and Henry of Calumet City.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, in the Oexmann Funeral Home, Hammond. The Rev. Edward A. Meyer, of the Hope Lutheran church, officiated, and interment was made in the Concordia cemetery.
