- "Bill" Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Peterson, and a Purdue student in his junior year, was in Indianapolis Tuesday for an army physical. "Bill" is a member of the reserves.
The folowing October 5, 1950, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
SCHNEIDER - PETERSON WEDDING SATURDAY
At the hour of five-thirty o'clock Saturday afternoon in a quiet home wedding, with the immediate families and several close friends present, Barbara Schneider, daughter of John F. Schneider, became the bride of William Peterson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry G. Peterson.As Mrs. Worley played the traditional wedding march Barbara, escorted by her father, came down the stairs into the living room to an improvised altar in front of the picture window which was decorated on either side with arrangements of mixed colors of gladioli.
Rev. Edmond Worley read the double ring service. The bride and bridegroom had their attendants, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Schutz, whom they had served as bridesmaid and best man several weeks previous. The bride and her attendant wore lace dresses over silk of ballerina length. Barbara chose a cream beige and wore a small becoming brown hat with beaded veil trim, and Phylis selected light blue with a feathered brown hat. Each carried a colonial bouquet. The bride's bouquet was red rosebuds with white mums and the bridemaid's was yellow rosebuds and white mums.
Mrs. Schneider chose a dark green dress and black accessories and Mrs. Peterson, a brown dress with green hat. Each had identical shoulder corsages of yellow rosebuds and white button mums.
A delicious wedding dinner was served to a group at the Lowell Ranch House. A beautiful wedding cake and the bride's and bridemaid's bouquets decorated the center of the table.
The young couple left immediately for a short trip through the Ozarks. The groom has been recalled into active service and reports at Fort Lewis, Washington, October 19th.
Both young people are graduates of Lowell high school with the class of 1946. Barbara entered nurses training at Gary Methodist hospital and graduated in 1949, continued there until she accepted her present position in the office of Dr. Mirro at Lowell.
Bill enlisted in the United States Army in September of 1946 and served eighteen months, the great part of his enlistment being spent in Tokyo, Japan. He was beginning his Junior year at Purdue university in the School of Forestry when he received orders to report for active duty.
from The Lowell Tribune, Dec. 28, 1950. page 11, column 2:
- The Christmas season was saddened for Mr. and Mrs. Harry Peterson who received a letter from their son Bill just before Christmas relating his arrival in Japan. Bill was called to service in October, being a junior student at Purdue, enrolled in ROTC. "Sparky" Hall of Shelby spent Christmas in Korea.
This September 20, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Bill Peterson, recently returned from service in Korea, will continue his studies at Purdue U. this fall, where he left off when called to service. Bill will again start his junior year in the school of engineering. His wife, the former Barbara Schneider, an R.N., has accepted a position on the nursing staff of St. Elizabeth's hospital in Lafayette.
