103rd Monument

outdoor monument of a soldier running with a rifle

This photo was sent, courtesy of Zach Sigler, who writes, "I'm the Historian for the 103d Infantry Division of WWII. I've taken on the task of honoring the 847 'Battle Dead' of our division. One such hero is Pvt. Theo W. Black, a Lowell, Indiana, son. Between Gainesville, Texas, and the Oklahoma border is a TXDOT Tourist Center. On Veterans Day, 2006, the 103d Division Assoc. dedicated a monument to the 847 Battle Dead of the 103d Division. In a semi-circle around the 14-foot monument are five 'Battle Death Tablets.' Tablet #1 honors the name and service of "Black, Theo W."
