In Front of a B-52

In Front of a B-52

Dan Cowan writes that this photo, from an undated, unidentified newspaper, was of his father and others after delivering the first B-52 bomber to Fairchild Air Force Base. The caption under the photo reads:

LT. COL. HAROLD G. COWAN, son of Mrs. J.R. Cowan of Crown Point, third from left, was co-pilot with Col. A.C. Neeley of Wilkesbarre, Pennsylvania, left, in the delivery of the first eight-jet, intercontinental B-52 heavy bomber from Boeing-Witchita to Fairchild Air Force base at Spokane, Washington. The new B 52's will replace the B 36's now assigned at the Strategic Air Command base. Enroute, simulated bombing runs were made over Denver, Colorado, and Salt Lake City, Utah.

Colonel Cowan is now Squadron Commander of the 326th Bomber Squadron. He makes his home in Spokane with his family, according to his mother.
