Lowell Baseball Team, 1906

- This picture originally comes from the Souvenir Album of Lake County, 1906, found at the Lowell Public Library, and it later appeared in the Lowell History CD-Rom, compiled by Gregory Jancosek as well as a March 13, 2007, Lowell Tribune story written by Jeff Manes and Richard Schmal.
The Souvenir caption reads:
Lowell had a strong baseball team this season, with the exception of the battery, making it necessary to employ outside talent. Hellen, of Kankakee; Miller, Parker and Jewell, of Chicago, occupied the pitcher's box during the season. Hepp, of Lowell, caught a good game until he had his wrist broken by being struck by a ball. He was succeeded by McGill, of Chicago. The team was managed by Ed Yates, who also played with the team. During the season the local team crossed bats with strong teams from Chicago, St. Joseph College, Chalmers, South Chicago, Brooks and Momence. Out of thirteen games played, the local team won ten and lost three, losing one to St. Joseph College and two to Momence, an exceedingly strong team.
The Manes/Schmal caption reads:
Lowell's 1906 baseball team. They were managed by Ed Yates who also played for them. The '06 squad was comprised mostly of Lowellians but did employ a few players from Chicago and one from Kankakee. This 1906 team played opponents ranging from Chicago, Illinois, to Brook, Indiana. They finished the season 10-3, losing once to St. Joseph College and twice to Momence which had an exceedingly strong team that year.
