Mary “Molly” Peterson and Charles K. Bisig

Mary "Molly" Peterson and Charles K. Bisig

This photo, from the collection of Rochelle Ellen (nee Bisig) Gereg, was taken at Molly Peterson's home on Grant St. in Lowell. Molly's real name was Mary, and she was married to James Henry Peterson, who spent most of his life working for the Monon Railroad. Molly was born in 1874 and died in 1973. Charles K. Bisig was born June 27, 1910.

Mrs. Gereg added the following incident about Molly Peterson when she was widowed and living alone:

Molly lived right by the R.R. tracks. She was always by the window to wave to the engineers that passed by at a certain time of day, and when one day she wasn't at the window, they stopped the train. She had fallen and broken her hip. They saved her life; we don't know how long she would have lain there with no help -- remember no telephones or help nearby to hear a weak old lady's crys for help.
