The following August 3, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Pfc. Ralph (Nick) Schafer has been home visiting his parents at Cook, and his many Lowell friends.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the January 25, 1945, issue (page 2, column 1):
- Two former schoolmates, Cpl. John Callahan of Lowell, and Pfc. Ralph Schafer of Cook, enjoyed a good visit recently when they met in the Philippines. Writing their parents, the boys said they certainly enjoyed seeing each other. Both soldiers were getting along fine when the letters were written.
