Lila Anna O'Brien Worley (1874-1924)
(Mrs. Benjamin Franklin Worley)
- Lila Anna Worley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel O'Brien, was born at
Momence, Ill., April 17, 1874, and died April 1, 1924, aged 49 years, 11
months and 14 days.
She united with the Church of Christ in 1893 under the ministry of Rev. A.M. Hootman and has been a good and loyal member of the local congregation. Upon the occasion of one of his pastoral calls upon Sister Worley, who has for several years been invalided by rheumatism, she remarked that if she could only sit in the back of the church in her chair and listen to another service she would be so grateful. Through her long years of suffering she has been patient and cheerful. She told her pastor that she used to pray to be well, but it was not God's will. Then she prayed for patience to endure her suffering cheerfully and patiently, and He who hearest all and knoweth all answered her prayer.
She was united in marriage February 14, 1898, to Benjamin Franklin Worley. No children were born to this union, but in the greatness of their hearts they took into their home and cared for their niece, Miss Marie Worley, who still resides in the home, and Maxine Clark until she was six years old.
She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband Benjamin F. Worley; her mother, Mrs. Margaret O'Brien; one sister, Mrs. Clara Clegg, Momence, Ill.; four brothers, Perry O'Brien, Gary, Ind.; Merwin, Los Angeles, Calif.; Clarence, Hammond, Ind.; Ivan, Momence, Ill.; niece, Marie Worley; and many other loving relatives and friends. Three brothers, Forrest, Pat and Elmer preceded her in death, the first named dying in infancy.
Those attending the service from out of town were: Mrs. Margaret O'Brien; Mrs. Clara Clegg; Mr. and Mrs. Ivan O'Brien, of Momence; Mr. and Mrs. Perry O'Brien, of Gary; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence O'Brien, of Hammond; Mr. and Mrs. John Hansen, of Powell, Wyo.; Glenn O'Brien, Gary; Miss Sylvia Worley, Chicago; Will Worley, Clara Gregg, Bert Worley and wife, James Moyer and wife, Mell Worley and wife, Mrs. L.
