Maria (Mary) Anna Joho Hoevet (1853-1918)
(Mrs. Mathias Hoevet)

The following unidentified newspaper article, hand-dated 1918, was found in a scrapbook owned by Harriet Hoevet Bennett:
Maria Anna Joho was born July 16, 1853, in Grand Dutchy, southern Germany, and died at her home in Lowell, March 7th, at the age of 64 years, 7 months, 23 days. Her death was due to heart trouble, which set in in January, and of which she had several attacks.

She came to this country in 1861 and for three years lived in Buffalo, N.Y., and then came to Chicago, where she lived five years. She was confirmed April 14, 1857, by Rev. Guntram. On March 9, 1869, she was untied in marriage to Mathias Hoevet. After their marriage they took up their residence in Yellowhead township, Ill., where they lived until 1905, when they moved to Lowell. Her husband passed away June 5, 1917.

The deceased is survived by ten children: George J., of Lowell, Englehard, of Ten Strike, Minn.; Albert of Monterey, Minn., Herman of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; Thelka, wife of Charles Wilde, of Ten Strike, Minn; Otto M., of Yellowhead township, Ill.; Edward and Mathias, of Lowell; Melinda, wife of Will Langhorst of Yellowhead township, Ill.; and Maria wife of Milford Childress*, of Lowell. One daughter passed away August 16, 1897, at the age of six years. She is survived by thirty grand-children.

Funeral services were held at the late home at 2 o'clock, pm., Sunday, March 9th, and there was a large attendance of her old friends and neighbors who gathered to pay their last respects to a woman they had loved and respected in life. Interment was made in the Lowell cemetery. Undertaker Weaver had charge of the burial service. The bereaved children have the sympathy of their friends in the loss of their mother.
