Johanna Krudup Meyer (1855-1926)

- Johanna Krudup was born in Westphalia, Gernany, Sept. 29, 1855, and died at her home in West Creek township, on July 20, 1926, aged 70 years, 9 months and 21 days.
She came to America and settled in Lake county, Ind., near Brunswick, with her parents in 1859.
She had two sisters and three brothers, of which two are still living, Herman Krudup, of Gibson City, Ill., and William Krudup, of Valparaiso, Ind.
On October 26, 1876*, she was united in marriage with John H. Meyer, and they settled on a farm in West Creek township, where she spent the remainder of her life.
To this union seven children were born, one son died in infancy, and Henry D., Mrs. Anna Kretz, Emma M., Ida C. Herman C. and Mrs. Bertha Souders, of Elkhart, Ind., are still living.
She was buried in the German Methodist cemetery, July 24th, Rev. Brown conducting the services assisted by Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Foster, who furnished the music. Wm. Sheets had charge of the burial service. The following acted as pall-bearers: Henry Shafer, Ed. Stuppy, John Stuppy, Henry Hoffman, Arthur Bixenman, Carl Kenning.
Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Henry Salmon, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Salmon, of Buckley, Ill.; Herman Salmon, Jr., Milford, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Krudup, Gibson City, Ill; William Krudup, Valparaiso, Ind.; Arthur Meyer and wife, of Scotia, Nebr.; Alice Krudup and Gladys Krudup, of Chicago; Mrs. Filer, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Teter, Remington, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence McRoberts, Hazelton, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nitsche, Chicago; Mr. McConnaughey, Chicago.
* NOTE -- While this article lists the marriage date of Johanna Krudup and John Meyer as Oct. 26, 1876, an Oct. 1992 "Pioneer History" column places their marriage year as 1871.
