Six Boys Enlist
Six fellows missed about town and home this week include Duane Ashton, who left Monday for Great Lakes, where he will take his boot training in the U.S. Navy.Robert Blair, Paul Martin, Ralph Barker, William Joyce and Russell Tuttle enlisted in the air force.
The boys went to Indianapolis on Friday and were sent to Sampson Air Force Base at Geneva, New York, for basic training.
The following March 6, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 3:
- Pfc. Ralph E. Barker arrived home Saturday morning from Louisiana Polytechnical Institute, Rushton, La., where he completed his schooling. He left Wednesday for Portland, Oregon, accompanied by Cpl. R.E. Bessonen of Michigan and Pfc. Ted Hertz of North Dakota, whom he will meet enroute. The three will be stationed in Portland for the present time.
This March 13, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 1:
- The Tribune this week is being mailed to Ralph Barker and Fred Lutgen, Jr., at new addresses which we pass on to their home friends, noting that cards and letters would be most welcome.

This October 9, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
- Airman 3/c Ralph E. Barker, son of B.M. Barker of Lowell, claimed Miss Ann Trussell, daughter of the H.L. Ferraris of Portland, Ore., as his bride in a simple wedding ceremony performed at Vancouver, Washington, on September 26th. During Ralph's short leave enroute to Camp Stoneman, Calif., the newlyweds are enjoying a brief stay at his home near Lowell.
Ralph was graduated from Lowell high school with the class of '50.
This November 20, 1952, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 1, column 3:
- A new address for the Tribune and his friends has been received from Ralph Barker, son of B.M. Barker, who left November 13th for the Far East.
