This undated, unidentified obituary was found in the local history clipping files at the Lowell Public Library. Sadly, a portion in the middle of it was unreadable.

Mary Ellen Dickey was born in Kankakee county, Illinois, July 22, 1854, and died May 16, 1899, aged 44 years, 9 months and 24 days. She had been in very poor health for the past few months but the day and evening previous to her death she seemed much better. On the day of her death she and Mrs. H.S. Love went down to see Mrs. Lewis Childress.* On arrival there she remarked that she felt much better in the open air so would remain in the buggy while the horse was being attendee to. In a few minutes Mrs. Childress and Mrs. Love noticed her making a violent effort to get her breath and in a short time she fell forward in the buggy. Mr. Childress who was a short distance away was sent for but she was dead when he -- [several lines are illegible here] -- special qualities and was greatly loved by those who knew her, and will be sincerely mourned by many outside her immediate relatives. Her life has been spent near the place of her birth until the past four years since which time she has lived near Lowell. She was married to Andrew J. Love February 23, 1870. To this union three children were born; one dying in infancy. Isabel, recently married to Mr. Lovering, of Vermont, and Frank together with the father survive the wife and mother. She became a member of the Christian Church at an early age and for thirty years was a faithful and consistent member. The funeral occurred from the Christian Church at Sherburnville Thursday, May 18th, where a very large concourse of her friends and neighbors had gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to one they had loved and respected in life. Rev. Davis, of Grant Park, preached the funeral discourse. She was laid away in the Sherburnville cemetery there to rest in quiet slumber until the morn of the first resurrection then to come forth in the newness of life to meet and greet her loved ones again. She leaves her husband, two children, father, step-mother, five brothers, four sisters and a large circle of friends to mourn her departure to which the TRIBUNE extends sincere sympathy in this their dark hour of sorrow.
