Patrick E. "Pat" Sharkey
Pat Sharkey is Air Force Enlistee
Pat Sharkey left Gary at 3:00 p.m. yesterday, Wednesday, to commence four years of service with the U.S. Air Force. Pat was graduated from L.H.S. last spring.His parents, the Robert Sharkeys, Sr., entertained 35 friends and relatives at a dinner party Tuesday evening in his honor. Pat was the recipient of everyone's well wishes for good luck.
The following August 28, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
- George "Oscar" Weddle, recent Air Force enlistee, sends his address and the news to The Tribune that it's very hot in Texas. With him during his basic training is Pat Sharkey. The two boys, both of whom graduated from L.H.S. with the class of '52, enlisted together.

Weddle and Sharkey Complete Air Force Basic Training
Lackland Air Force Base, Texas - George B. Weddle, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. Weddle, and Patrick E. Sharkey, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Sharkey of Lowell, who were graduated from Lowell high school last spring, are completing their Air Force basic airman indoctrination course at Lackland Air Force Base, the "Gateway to the Air Force".Lackland, situated near San Antonio, is the world's largest air force base, site of Air Force basic training, for men and women, headquarters of the Human Resource Research Center, and home of the Air Force's Officer's Candidate School.
Their basic training is preparing them for entrance into Air Force technical training and for assignment in specialized work. The course includes a scientific evaluation of their aptitude and inclination for following a particular vocation and career.
This November 27, 1952, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 1, column 6:
- Thanksgiving Day will have added cheer in the Weddle and Sharkey homes for their sons, George and Pat are expected home. In the Sharkey home, however, the family circle will not be complete for Jim is in Korea and Dick in San Diego, both with the Marine Corps.
