Josephine Thrasher Dickey (1856-1940)
(Mrs. James M. Dickey)
-
Josephine Thrasher Dickey was born at Monon, Indiana, November 10, 1856, and passed away at her home in Shelby, Indiana, March 31, 1940, at the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 21 days. She had been ill only a few days and her death came suddenly as the result of a heart attack.
She was married to James M. Dickey and to this union eight children were born, five of whom survive. They are Mrs. Maude Dehner and George W. Dickey of Shelby, Indiana; Mrs. Pearl Berkshire and Mrs. Maisie Boyce of Canton, Ohio; and Guy Dickey of Brook, Indiana. Three sons have preceded her in death, one who died in infancy; Clyde passed away some years ago and the eldest son, Edwin Earl, who passed away just last August.
In addition twelve grandchildren and six great grand children survive.
She united with the M.E. Church at Monon, Indiana, many years ago. Shortly after the removal of the family to Shelby in 1908, she transferred her membership to the Shelby Christian Church, of which she was a member at the time of her death.
Thus ends a long and fruitful life, marked chiefly by her deep devotion to her family and loved ones.
Funeral services were held at the Shelby Christian Church, Tuesday, April 2, at one thirty P.M. with Rev. E.L. Worley officiating. Interment at the Chapel Cemetery at Monon, Indiana, in the Dickey family lot.
