GEORGE ENNIS FORMER LOWELL RESIDENT DIES AT TAMPA, FLA.
George Carleton Ennis, 66, of 115 South Avenue Tampa, Fla., a former resident of Lowell, died February 12 at a Tampa hospital.He went to Chicago Heights as a young man and worked as a plumber and later as a plumbing contractor. His wife is the former Elva Cole of Chicago Heights.
Mr. Ennis was born October 26, 1887, at Lowell. He returned here from Chicago Heights to operate his own plumbing business before moving to Tampa in 1924. His shop was located across from the old Halstead home on the corner of Main and Halstead streets. At Tampa, he was secretary of Pipefitters Local 766. During World War II he served as a pipefitting instructor at a Tampa shipyard.
His father, George Ennis, 95, is a resident of Steger. Also surviving, in addition to Mrs. Ennis, are one daughter, Mrs. Lela Smith of Tampa; two sons, Ernest of Tampa and Raymond of Detroit; one sister, Mrs. Marie Black of Steger; two brothers, Harold of Lansing and Vernon of Steger; and five grandchildren; also Gerald Gordon of Lowell and Jack Gordon of Cedar Lake, both nephews. He was preceded in death by two sons, Leland and Eldred.
