A copy of the following newspaper article, hand-identified as coming from the January 29, 1954 Star, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

Taken suddenly ill Monday night, Robert M. Westphal, 45, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Gary Methodist hospital soon afterward. The family home is east of Lowell on Hilltop Drive.

A Great Lakes seaman, he has come with his wife and daughters from northern Michigan, their native country, to Lowell in 1949 by way of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where they lived for several years.
