The following unidentified newspaper article comes from a family history, compiled by Ernest J. Fredregill, entitled An Old Album of Interest to Ritters, Livingstons, Hilzleys and Islers:
- Andrew J. Livingston was born in Otsego county, New York, August 4, 1844, and died at Ludington, Michigan, October 23, 1905, at the age of 61 years, 2 months and 19 days. The cause of his death was uremic poison. He was taken sick Saturday, the 21st, and soon lapsed into unconsciousness and remained so till the end came.
June 28, 1870, he was united in marriage with Miss Louisa Ritter. To this union five children were born -- Mrs. Peter Sauer, of Klaasville, Ind., Mrs. Leonard Hilzley, of Lowell, Mrs. Julius Batterman, of Palmer, Ind., George and Ernest, of West Creek. He was an honest and industrious man and well liked by all who knew him. He was a soldier in the Civil War and served two years in Co. K. of the 40th Iowa Infantry and was honorably discharged by reason of the close of the War.
His remains arrived here Friday morning and the funeral was held from the West Creek church at 10 o'clock Saturday forenoon. Elder John Bruce preached the funeral discourse. The M.E. church choir furnished the music. Funeral Director John Castle had charge of the burial. Interment in West Creek cemetery. The following six comrades acted as pall-bearers: J.W. Chitwood, Leslie Gragg, Edwin Michael, W.C. Nichols, T.D. Dickinson and Hiram Peterson. The ritualistic work of the G.A.R. was performed at the grave after which all that was mortal of our comrade was lowered to its last resting place.
He leaves five children, thirteen grand-children and a number of other relatives and friends to mourn his departure to whom we extend sincere sympathy.
