FATHER FINDS SON DEAD IN BED
RAY AULT, FORMER LOWELL BOY, DIES VERY SUDDENLY AT WHITING HOME
Last Thursday morning John Ault, formerly of Lowell, but now residing at Whiting, went to the room of his son Ray to call him and found him dead in bed, he having passed away some time during the night. He had been a sufferer from heart trouble for several years and the night before was not feeling well, but it was not thought his condition was serious, and his sudden death was a great shock to his parents and the relatives and friends. He was born in Lowell, and lived here with his parents until their removal to Whiting a number of years ago.Arthur Ray Ault was born in Lowell, April 27, 1896, to John and Mary Ault. He was one of three children.
When Ray was six years old the family moved to Whiting where he grew to manhood. In his earlier years of manhood he taught manual training in the schools of Hammond, Evanston and Omaha, Neb. At the latter place his health failed and he returned to Whiting.
During the World war he was attached to [a] military hospital in Washington, D.C., engaged in the vocational department, training disabled soldiers.
In 1922 at the age of 22 he was united in marriage to Anna Weiss, of Evanston, Ill., and to this union one child was born, Betty Ann.
The deceased was a member of the Plymouth Congregational church of Whiting, of which church his father has been and is now an honored deacon. Ray was an active lodge man, being a member of the Wayfarer Masonic lodge of Evanston, Ill.. and the Whiting Chapter of the American Legion.
His health for the past four years has not been good; he has, however, kept steadily at work for some considerable time.
The evening of the 24th of this month he complained of being sick and passed away quite suddenly the following morning, August 25*, 1927, at the age of 31 years.
He leaves to mourn him, a father, mother, a brother, Keith, sister, Vida, one daughter, Betty Ann and her mother, together with a large group of loving friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held at the home in Whiting Sunday, after which the remains were brought to Lowell, where interment was made in Lowell cemetery.
* NOTE -- Although the above article lists Arthur Ray Ault's death date as Aug. 25, 1927, his mother's obituary lised it as Aug. 26 of that year.
