Mrs. Geo. Wilkening Dies Suddenly Following Surgery
The Lowell and Beecher communities are deeply grieved by the untimely death of Mrs. George Wilkening, 28, of Beecher, Ill., the former Beverly Ann Childress, lovely daughter of the Walter Childresses of R.R. 2, Lowell.Eldest daughter of Walter and Nelda (Kenny) Childresses, Beverly was born July 20, 1927, at Lowell. She lived here until her parents moved to a farm south of Beecher in 1944. She graduated from Beecher high school in 1945.
On November 24, 1945, she was united in marriage to George Wilkening. Their entire married life was spent in Beecher. Last November they moved into their home on Woodward Street. For the past four years she has been associated with the Hiatt Clinic.
On Thursday, March 15, she entered Hazelcrest Hospital and on Friday submitted to major surgery. She never rallied from the operation, and, even though she had the best of medical care she passed away quietly early Saturday morning at about 2:15 a.m. She was 28 years, 7 months, and 27 days of age.
She was always friendly and cheerful and had many friends in both the Lowell and Beecher communities. She was a faithful member of St. Luke's Evangelical and Reform Church and was a member of the church choir for several years.
She leaves to mourn her sudden passing her husband and parents, two sisters and two brothers. They are Mrs. Dolores Huseman of Cedar Lake, Nancy Childress at home, Jerry Childress of Heborn, and Dickey Childress of Lowell. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, March 20, at the Hack Funeral Home in Beecher at 1:30 p.m. and the St. Luke's Church in Beecher at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Edwin Otte officiated. Interment was in the St. Luke's Church Cemetery.
