- Mr. and Mrs. Walter Childress anticipate the homecoming of their son, Dickie, from Scott Field, where he is stationed with the Army Air force. Dickie will fly to Chicago Saturday afternoon.

- Mrs. Walter Childress and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jerry Childress, drove to Scott Field Friday and the former's son, Dickie, retruned with them to enjoy a ten day Christmas furlough at home. Before returning to Lowell Friday evening they were dinner guests of Staff Sergeant and Mrs. Norman Dinwiddie and children who reside at 311 South Pennsylvania Ave., Belleville, Ill. . . .
This April 26, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found page 3, column 4:
"DICKIE" CHILDRESS TRANSFERRED TO OAKLAND
On Sunday, April 15th, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Childress entertained at a family dinner honoring their son Pfc. Walter D. Childress, "Dickie", who was being transferred from Scott Air Base, St. Louis, Mo. to Traverse Air Base, Oakland, California. Dinner guests included Mr. and Mrs. George Wilkening of Beecher, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Childress of Lowell, Wynna McDole of Hobart, and Pfc. Charles Cintalon of Scott Air Base.Mrs. Childress accompanied her son to Scott Air Base and remained with him from Sunday until Wednesday at which time he left for Oakland, Calif.
This July 19, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found page 1, column 1:
- Arriving in Chicago, via plane, from Traverse Air Force Base in California, Dickie Childress was greeted by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Childress. Dickie, who is an air craft engineer, repairs radios on P-36's. He will enjoy a 20-day leave.
The following December 20, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- Dickie Childress arrived Tuesday from Chandler Air Force Base, near Denver, Colo., to enjoy a 26-day leave with his parents, the Walter Childresses.
A December 27, 1951, Lowell Tribune article (page 2, column 1) listed Dickie Childress as one of many servicemen from the Lowell vicinity arriving home for the holidays.
This October 16, 1952, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 1, column 3:
- A/2c and Mrs. Dick Childress returned last week to Traveris Air Base near San Francisco, Calif., after a five-week leave enjoyed in this area. They were guests in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Childress. Dickie spent 3 weeks at Scott Air Base, Belleville, Ill., where he studied a course in radio installation. Dickie is a radio technician.
The following November 6, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 3:
- News comes from Travis Air Base, Calif., concerning Dickey Childress, radio technician. Dickey was recently promoted to the rank of sergeant.
