The following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    Burdett Collins, 43, Is Accident Victim

    Burdett E. Collins, 43, died at Gary Methodist hospital on the Fourth of July. He was critically injured June 29 when his motorcycle skidded onto the shoulder of the road and overturned when he tried to maneuver it back onto the pavement. The accident occurred about four miles east of town on State Road 2.

    The son of Mr. and Mrs. Emory Collins of Eagle Creek Township, R.R. 2, Lowell, Burdett was born here February 1*, 1912. His parents came to this community from Illinois 44 years ago.

    Rev. Loren E. Holt will officiate at memorial services which will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 7, in the Sheets Funeral Home. Interment will be made in the West Creek cemetery.

    Survivors include three children, Burdett, Jr., Mrs. Mary Alice Quasebarth and Garnet Collins, all of Cedar Lake, one grandchild, Cherry Lynn Quasebarth, besides his parents and nine brothers and sisters; Willard of Siren, Wis., Elva Kabella of Crown Point, Leonard of Lansing, Ill., Forrest of Hammond, Rowena Stuppy of Ludington, Mich., Vernal Collins of Lowell, Gwyneth Tinnon of East Prairie, Mo., Cecil Collins of Crown Point, and Marlene Terrana of Hebron.

NOTE -- The Worley Family Tree book lists Burdett (spelled "Burdette") E. Collins' birth date as Feb. 2, 1912.
