Charles Albert Nichols (1887-1924)

The following July 24, 1924 Lowell Tribune obituary appeared on page 8, column 3:
    Charles Albert, second child of John Freemont and Lucy Martin Nichols, was born December 29, 1887. His mother passed away November 21*, 1897, when Charles was not year ten years of age. A baby brother, Edward Star, passed away August 16, 1898.

    Charles Albert Nichols and Edith Ruth Belshaw were married January 17, 1912. On March 27, 1921, he and his wife and daughter, Madeline Ruth, united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in Lowell. At the age of 36 years, 6 months and 20 days, he closed his earthly life July 19, 1924, at his home in Lowell.

    His loving wife, little daughter Madeline Ruth, his father, two sisters, Mrs. Frank Beach, of Hammond, and Mrs. Charles Horner, of Lowell, survive.

    Charles Nichols had been engaged in business in various capacities in Lowell for several years. The past few years he successfully engaged in the insurance business. In whatever capacity he was employed he gave his best. He was a man of many friends. Several years ago he sustained a fall that crippled him for the remainder of his days. In spite of this handicap he always maintained a very cheerful disposition. During the past few weeks of illness and severest suffering he was cheerful, mindful of the comfort and interest of his family. His friends are legion. He builded himself into the life of the community and will not be forgotten.

    Charles A. Nichols was a respected member of the Order of Knights of Pythias, held in highest esteem because of his many fraternal qualities.

    Funeral services were held at the M.E. church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. C.A. Brown assisted by Rev. Simpson. Interment in the Lowell cemetery. Pall-bearers: Ed. Berg, Clarence Brown, John Miller, Kenney Hall, Hal Weaver and Harry Hayden. Undertaker Weaver had charge of the burial service.

* NOTE -- Although this article lists the death date of Lucy Martin Nichols as Nov. 21, 1897, her obituary lists it as Nov. 23, 1897.
