Catherine Ann (Driscoll) Hack
This December 4, 1924, Lowell Tribune obituary appeared on page 1, column 4:- Catharine Ann, eldest daughter of John and Betsey Driscoll, was born near Lowell, Indiana, October 18, 1844.* She united in marriage with John Hack, November 23, 1863. These words of this obituary were prepared by her own hand, anticipating a day when they would be needed.
- For six days more than sixty one years they have traveled life's way together. For fifty-nine years they lived on the lot where in a few months after marriage they established their home.
- On November 28, 1924 she took her departure, peacefully, quietly slipping away. She had finished her journey. She was loved by her neighbors. Her friends were legion. Her home life was beautiful. Her lovable disposition gave itself to the good cheer and inspiration of the whole community.
- Of her immediate family she leaves her daughter, Mrs. E.R. Lynch, her son, William, who together comfort her bereaved husband, their father; two grand-children, Miss Madge Lynch and John William Hack; one sister, Mrs. Mary Eliza Smith and one brother, Martin Driscoll.
- Mrs. Hack was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, quite regular in attendance when in good health, enjoying and adding to the joys of its fellowship.
- She was a good woman, a good wife and mother, a good neighbor.
- Funeral services were held at the home Sunday at 2 p.m., Rev. C.A. Brown, pastor of the Methodist church, conducting the service. Mrs Laura Taylor and Mrs. George Foster, with Miss Spofford, accompanist, furnished the music. Interment in charge of Undertaker Weaver, was made in the Lowell cemetery.
* NOTE -- Although this obituary puts Catherine Driscoll Hack's birth date as Oct. 18, 1844, family researcher Thomas E. Driscoll says it was really Oct. 18, 1846.
John Robert Driscoll

DRISCOLL was born in Cedar Creek Township, Lake Co., Ind., December 24, 1852, and is one of six children born to John and Betsey (Murphy) Driscoll, both natives of Ireland. John R. Driscoll received a common school education; his father died when he was ten years of age, but he remained on the home farm until he was twenty-one, when he went to Lowell, engaged in the dry goods trade, and resided until 1878, when he moved on a portion of the old homestead bequeathed to him by his father. This has since been his home, and he has now a well-improved farm of 140 acres in this township. On September 18, 1876, he was married to Ida Lynch, a native of Lowell, Lake, Co., Ind, daughter of John and Sarah M. (Sherard) Lynch, the former of Ireland, the latter of Ohio. To this union there was born one child -- Don Carl. Mr. Driscoll is a member of Colfax Lodge, No. 373, A., F. & A.M. In politics, he is a Republican, and he is a leading farmer of the township and county.
