Christopher Webber "Crip" Binyon (1847-1916)
- Christopher Webber Binyon was born in Lake county, Indiana, October 29, 1847, and departed this life at his home at Cedar Lake, Ind., September 26, 1916, at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 27 days.
Mr. Binyon was one of the seven children of the family of John and Nancy (Hughes) Binyon, and of this number only two survive, Mrs. Mildred Higinbotham and Mrs. D.D. Mee. His father was one of the earliest settlers in Lake county.
May 19, 1870, "Crip" Binyon was united in marriage to Flora Peirce, of Merrillville, Ind. To this union was born seven children -- four girls and three boys, Lewis D., Mrs. J.U. Spindler, Claude E., Hal O., Mrs. J.G. Nichols, Mrs. Walter E. Brownell and Nettie, who departed this life in infancy.
Mr. Binyon, having inherited a strong personality from his worthy parents, had the happy faculty of stamping his kindly and generous nature upon all with whom he came in daily contact. The writer has known Mr. Binyon many years and has always found him a man whom it was a pleasure to meet. He has resided in Lake county since his birth and has seen it grow to be one of the richest counties in this section of the state. The bereaved family have the sympathy of their friends in their hour of sorrow.
Funeral services were held at his late home Friday at 2 p.m., and there was a large attendance of those who have been his friends in life and who gathered to pay their last respects to their departed friend. Rev. A.M. Hootman, former pastor of the Christian church here, preached the funeral sermon. Interment was made in the Lowell cemetery. Undertaker John Castle had charge of the burial service.
