Clyde Sark, Jr.
This January 4, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
- After spending a 30 days leave here with his parents, the Clyde Sarks, and other relatives, S 1/c Clyde Sark, Jr., has returned to the Armed Guard Center at San Francisco for assignment to duty aboard ship.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the March 14, 1946, issue (page 2, column 1-2):
- Clyde Sark, Jr., Lowell, Ind., is returning to the States aboard the destroyer escort Earl K. Olsen, flagship of a destroyer escort division. He is expected to arrive on the east coast late this month.
- He is a "plank owner," having served aboard the ship since its commissioning at Tampa, Fla., in April, 1944. He saw action in convoy work in the Atlantic. Later the ship was ordered to the Pacific where she arrived at Eniwetok atoll the day hostilities ceased. Pacific ports of call included Ulithi, Leyte, Manila and Tokyo.
- Upon arrival the Olsen will be placed in the reserve fleet.
This March 28, 1946, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 3, column 2:
- Clyde Sark, Jr., S 1/c, has been discharged at Great Lakes Naval Training Station.
