Delbert G. Solomon
An article on page 2, column 3, of the February 11, 1943, Lowell Tribune listed Pvt. Delbert Solomon as going to Camp Toccooa, Ga., for his basic training.
This January 13, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
- Paratrooper Delbert G. Solomon, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Solomon, left for Camp McCall, North Carolina, Wednesday, after spending a two week furlough with his parents.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the February 15, 1945, issue (page 2, column 1):
- Pvt. Delbert Solomon, paratrooper, was among the U.S. troops who were landed south of Manila, in the recent invasion there. The Chicago Sun carried a list of the men participating from this section last Thursday.
This July 19, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
- Pfc. Delbert G. Solomon of the paratroopers is expected some[time] soon on a 30-day furlough, from Nichols General hospital. Louisville, Ky. He was wounded in the leg while serving in the Philippines and been in the hospital for the past five months. He is now able to be up and around.
This May 19, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 6:
Pfc. Delbert Solomon Wounded In Action in Philippines.
- Mr. and Mrs. John Solomon of rural route 1, Cedar Lake, received news this week that their son, Pfc. Delbert, who is somewhere in the Philippines, had suffered a leg wound in the severe fighting going on there.
- A letter from him stated that he was in a hospital and getting along fine, but wanted his friends to know that it would be some time before he would be able to do much writing.
- Pfc. Solomon, who was presented a Purple Heart while at the hospital, has two brothers, Pfc. Elmer and Cpl. William, also in service.
This September 13, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
- Pfc. Delbert Solomon, son of the John Solomons, who has been confined in Nichols hospital, Louisville, Ky., for some time since his return from overseas duty, expects to receive a medical discharge soon.
