MISS PAT HURST AND PFC DON TREMPER WED IN FORMAL RITES
Before an altar laden with white flowers and palms and adorned with lighted tapers in branched candelabras, Miss Patricia Hurst, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Hurst of South Court St., Crown Point, and Pfc. Donald Tremper, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Tremper of the Nine Mile Stretch, took their nuptial vows in a double ring ceremony on April 28th at four in the afternoon. The impressive rites were performed by Rev. Thomas Adkins in the First Presbyterian church, in Crown Point. Mrs. Thomas, organist, provided bridal music and Miss Noreen Kaldahl sang "Because" and "The Lord's Prayer."Given in marriage by her father, the bride was lovely in a gown of rich candlelight satin fashioned with Peter Pan collar, long sleeves cut to Mary Stuart points over the wrists and a fitted bodice fastened down the front with tiny satin buttons. The full skirt swept into a chapel train. Her fingertip veil of nylon illusion edged on chantilly lace, was secured to a regal tiara embroidered with rhinestones and seed pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of white carnations and trailing ivy.
The bride chose for her maid of honor, Miss Norma Tremper, sister of the groom. She wore an aqua-colored gown created of lace and nylon marquisette over taffeta. She wore matching lace mitts and carried a cascade bouquet of pink carnations. A cluster of the same flowers adorned her hair. Miss Helen Reis attended as bridesmaid, attired in a yellow gown of identical style. Her cascade bouquet of yellow carnations was tied with aqua ribbon.
Attending the groom were Richard Ohlenkamp of Grant Park, Ill., the groom's cousin, and Ted Tappan of Lowell, who served as best man. Guests were ushered in by the bride's brother, Alan Hurst.
At the reception held in the church recreation room following the rites, Miss Lucille Varsho of Marshfield, Wis., Mrs. Robert Tremper and Mrs. Roger Herlitz acted as hostesses.
Pfc. Donald Tremper, who graduated from Lowell high school with the class of '43 will return to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., on May 11th and his bride, who was graduated from Crown Point high school in 1946, will resume her clerical position in her father's auto supply store in Crown Point.
The new Mrs. Tremper selected an aqua blue suit with white accents as her costume for traveling on a honeymoon of undisclosed destination.
The following November 22, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 5:
- Donald Tremper, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Tremper of the nine-mile stretch, completed his active army service at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. with the rating of sergeant and is now with the reserve forces. Don arrived home last Thursday and for the present he and his wife, the former Miss Pat Hurst, are staying with her parents in Crown Point. Don is a graduate of L.H.S.
