The following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:

    Ed Ebert, 79, Lifetime Lowell Resident, Dies

    Ed Ebert, 79, lifetime resident of the Lowell community, passed away Sunday morning, the 6th of March, at Our Lady of Mercy hospital in Dyer. He had been ill only four days.

    The son of Conrad and Josephine Ebert, Ed was born at Orchard Grove on August 3, 1875. On August 10, in 1900*, he married Clarissa Reed, who preceded him in death one year ago.

    Ed farmed in the community until he retired and moved to Lowell. His wife was license bureau manager prior to her death.

    Survivors include one brother, Melvin Ebert of Chicago; two sisters, Mrs. Nadine Huebsch of Lowell and Mrs. Orpha Whiting of Whiting.

    Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Weaver Funeral Home, with Rev. Harold Hotchkiss officiating. Interment, made in the Lowell cemetery, was in charge of John Eskridge.

*NOTE -- The obituary of Mrs. Ed Ebert lists their wedding date as Aug. 24, 1901.
