Edmond L. Hough
- Friends and family members from southern Lake and Porter counties were in Hebron this afternoon (Thursday) for church services that marked the death of Edmond L. Hough, county line farmer who lost his life in a corn picker accident Monday. Lake county-born, he was 51 years old.
When Ed failed to come in for supper that evening his son Kenneth, a junior at Hebron high school, went out to the field in search of him. He found his father caught by his coat in the power take off of the corn picker. He had just finished a row, the machine's position indicated, and as the afternoon darkened, would soon, no doubt, have been going home. Since virtually no injury was apparent the belief grows, members of his family said, that he had perhaps suffered a heart attack and fallen on the shaft. The motor was not going when Kenneth arrived.
Born January 28, 1904, Edmond was the son of the late Edmond E. and Aletha Dickinson Hough, who were well known in the Leroy-Hebron farm communities. His wife is the former Vernice Hale, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Hale of Orchard Grove and a teacher in Lake county schools before her marriage. There are four children in their family; Kenneth and a daughter, Anita, in her second year at Hebron high school; a son Glen of Pekin, Illinois; and a daughter, Wilma Hoffman of Gary. Grandchildren also survive with five brothers and a sister: Charles, Joseph and Walter of Hebron, Ellis of Crown Point, Henry of New Carlisle and Elise ---ird of Rock Island, Illinois.
Rev. Logan Dunham held services in the Christian church before burial was made in Hebron cemetery.
