The following July 1, 1926, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 8, column 4:

WELCH - MABIN

Eugene C. Welch and Miss Fay Mabin, of Gary, were married at the Methodist parsonage by Rev. C.A. Brown, pastor of the Methodist church, on Friday at 2 p.m.

The groom is a foreman in the steel mills at Gary. The bride is [a] Chesterton girl, a member of the Methodist congregation when Rev. Brown was pastor there a few years ago. She recently graduated from the Nurse Training school of the Methodist hospital at Gary.

While their friends were guessing that the wedding would be soon the young people stole a match on them by slipping away to Lowell and giving her former pastor the pleasure of solemnizing the marriage. They will make their home in Gary.
