The Lowell Star, Aug. 17, 1872, page 5, column 3, had a list of soldiers who were supporters of Grant in that election. Among them was H.S. Stratton of the 187th Pa. Inf. This may or may not have been the same person as the H.S. Stratton of the 45th Pa. who is mentioned on the monument. (Note the different regiment of the two.)
