The Lowell Star, Aug 17, 1872, page 5, column 3, had a list of soldiers who were supporters of Grant in that election. Among them was a Charles Welton of the Ind. 99th. This may or may not be the same person as the H.T. Welton of the 99th Ind. Inf. who is listed on the Three Creeks Monument. Since many members of the same family joined the same units, it could also be a relative.
