    Ted Palmer, Two Companions, Die In Boat Accident

    Drownings in Wisconsin Waters Follow Craft's Capsizing in Storm

    A Christian Science service was read Monday afternoon in Merriam's funeral home to mark the passing of Harold O. Palmer, 56, Leroy businessman who drowned last Wednesday afternoon near Rhinelander, Wisconsin, when his boat capsized during a thunderstorm and accompanying high winds. Other lives claimed in the accident were those of his fishing companions, Leroy Grimes, 48, former Leroy resident, and Lee Kenney, of Minocqua, Wisconsin. The family was notified upon recovery of the bodies from Willow flowage near Hazelhurst late Thursday. A son-in-law, Harry Donnelly, en route to the Palmers' Wisconsin vacation cottage to join "Ted," was stopped and told the tragic story at Chicago Heights last night.

    Born in Creston, where his family name is an old and respected one, "Ted" was the son of the late James and Celia Nichols Palmer. Lowell was also a homeplace before he came to Crown Point, where he an his wife, the former Miss Ruth Klug, and their five children lived before going to Leroy. He entered the heating business there about 20 years ago.

    Surviving with Mrs. Palmer are four daughters, Mrs. Paul Davis, postmistress at Leroy, Mrs. Donnelly, Mrs. Robert Brannon and Mrs. Heull Atcheson of Crown Point; and a son John, who will soon be discharged from naval service at his South Carolina base. Also left are nine grandchildren, a brother Oliver of Syracuse; and two sisters, Mrs. Clifford Thompson of Lowell and Mrs. Harry Hathaway of Hammond.

    Pallbearers for the burial at Chapel Lawn, Schererville were Raymond Fauser, John Keehn, Sidney Kuiper, Harold Henderson, Albert Ziese of Leroy and Crown Point and Emeroy McKnight of LaCrosse.

    "Ted" Palmer Drowns In Wisconsin Lake

    Harold O. "Ted" Palmer, 56, who operated a heating business at LeRoy, was drowned while vacationing near Rhinelander, Wis. Ted was one of three men drowned in an accident last Wednesday evening, June 13.

    Born October 30, 1899, at Creston, the son of the Jim Palmers, who later resided on Clark Street, Ted married Ruth Klug of Lowell. Before moving to LeRoy, the Palmers lived in Hammond for many years.

    Christian Science services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Merriam Funeral Home in Crown Point and burial was in Chapel Lawn cemetery in Schererville.

    Palmer is survived by his widow, Ruth; a son, John, a Navy man in South Carolina; three daughters, Mrs. Paul Davis of LeRoy; Mrs. Harry Donnelly, Mrs. Robert Brannon and Mrs. Heull Atchison, all of Crown Point; a brother, Oliver of Syracuse, Ind.; and two sisters, Mrs. Clifford Thompson of Lowell and Mrs. Harry Hathaway of Hammond.
