WINCH - GRAGG
A lovely wedding took place at 3 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, March 25th at the home of Mrs. and Mrs. Carle N. Gragg, when their daughter, Miss Harriet Mildred Gragg became the bride of Leland S. Winch, of West Lafayette, Indiana.Rev. C.A. Brown and Rev. R.H. Crowder performed the ceremony before an altar banked with palms and ferns and flanked by tall baskets of snap dragons and stock.
Miss Gragg wore a white crepe gown with short close jacket. Her veil was of white tulle with a small cap, worn halo-fashion, from which the veil fell completely around the head, and was of finger-tip length. She carried a sheaf of bride's roses and lilies of the valley. For the traditional "old" she carried a handkerchief that she had previously used at her graduation from Lowell high school. The bride's only attendant was her sister, and Clare Perlin, of Chicago, acted as best man.
Miss Helen Gragg wore a gown of powder blue lace with short jacket with puffed sleeves, and she carried a bouquet of Briar Cliff roses and sweet peas. She wore a blue hat of tulle and a necklace, which was a gift of the bride.
Liszt's Liebestraum was played by a trio composed of Miss Ruth Morris, of Lowell, Miss Ann McKnight , of Elwood, and Miss Virginia Scritchfield, of Lowell. Miss McKnight and Miss Scritchfield ate sorority sisters of the bride.
Following the ceremony a dainty lunch was served at a table decorated with a center piece of pink roses, carnations and sweet peas. The beautifully decorated tiered wedding cake was cut by the bride. Miss Lucille Graf and Miss Anne Marie Petersen, both of Whiting, also sorority sisters of the bride, assisted in pouring tea and serving dainty sandwiches, cookies, wedding bell ice cream molds and mints.
During refreshments the bride and groom used the same plates that the bride's mother and father had used at their wedding twenty-eight years ago.
After the luncheon Mr. and Mrs. Winch left on a motor trip to New Orleans.
Out of town guests at the wedding included: Mrs. Phil Hamm, Miss Pearl Winch and Kenneth Hamm, of Mezomanie, Wis.; Mrs. G.K. Petersen of Sheboygan, Wis.; Misses Rebecca and Clara K. Olsen, Mrs. Hilda Olsen and Mr. Edward Kersten of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. C. Dean and Mr. and Mrs. Goodin and daughter, Peggy, of Bluffton, Ind.; Miss Jeanne Wilson and Mr. Fred E. Shick of Indianapolis; Miss Florence Phelps of Fr. Wayne; Miss Ruth Ebert and Mr. Sam Berg of Hammond; Mr. and Mrs. Roland Hainbaugh and Mrs. Chas. Sonneborn of Whiting; Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Schultz of South Bend; and Prof. and Mrs. Alan Monroe of West Lafayette, Ind.
The bride is a graduate of Lowell high and of Indiana University, where she is a member of Chi Omega Sorority. For the last two years she has worked with Mrs. Chas. C. Dean, of the Indiana State Forestry Dept. at Bluffton, Ind.
The bridegroom is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and is a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He is a member of the faculty of Purdue University.
